In-Home Quality of Life Assessment Services

Our Caring Pathways Quality of Life Assessment Services is an in-home appointment where one of our end-of-life care veterinarians will evaluate your beloved pet in the comfort and privacy of your home. Oftentimes, pet parents feel stuck making the difficult decision to move forward with euthanasia, not knowing if it is the “right time.” Having an expert evaluate your pet in person and make an educated recommendation based on their experience and compassion can give you the confidence you need to make the best decision for your special family member.

A Virtual Quality of Life Consultation Might be Right for You

Caring Pathways also offers Virtual Quality-of-Life Consults. These consultations offer an alternative way to have a focused quality of life discussion with one of our veterinary experts to determine which type of appointment best meets your family’s needs.

What to Expect During A Quality of Life Assessment

Upon arrival of your Quality of Life assessment appointment, our veterinarian will get to know you and your family. They will take time to learn about your pet through you, as well as through observing how your pet behaves in the space where they are most comfortable. Our doctor will perform a physical examination of your pet and discuss with you their findings. Based on this examination and information that you share about your pet, including any previous diagnoses, behavior challenges, or any other relevant information, our veterinarian will either support the decision to move forward with euthanasia, or offer an alternative recommendation appropriate for your pet and your family. If the decision is made to delay euthanasia, the doctor may make recommendations, such as returning to your regular veterinarian for further evaluation and care.

Please note that this is an abbreviated visit and therefore our team will not collect medical records from your regular veterinarian or create an ongoing care plan.

Client Testimonials

“Caring Pathways is a wonderful company, they’re very compassionate & kind during a time in life that is very difficult. They helped me & my cat Gonzo through his end of life. My sweet baby had been struggling with a nasal tumor, which was progressing. When I called in, the person on the phone was caring & walked me through the different options. We scheduled a quality of life appointment to assess him.

It’s a tough decision to make, when is the right time to make the call & say goodbye. The vet that visited our house for the first visit was amazing; she really helped ease a lot of the guilt & uncertainty I was facing. She gave us guidance on the signs to look for when it was time, our family determined together with her opinion that he still had a good quality of life to wait to euthanize. She gave him some medicine to help with pain relief & made some adjustments on his current medicine to make him more comfortable. I think this really helped him in his last couple of weeks, which is time that I’m very grateful to have had.

Unfortunately, his illness progressed quickly while we were out of town & we had to make the very difficult decision to put him down while we were gone. He had a loved one with him for comfort & the vet from Caring Pathways that came out for this visit was a big help & guided us through everything with compassion over the phone. They also walk you through what comes after euthanasia & we made those decisions prior to that day so there is less strain on an already incredibly hard moment.

The option of having him at home, where he was comfortable & able to go to sleep peacefully & feel no pain as he passed away, was a big comfort. I miss him so much & I appreciate everyone’s help on the team.”
