Lani

Jun 4, 2025

Lani came into our lives in September 2016 when she was 9 years old, from a family that couldn’t have her anymore. It was love at first sight—that little black nose, the beautiful ash gray fur soft as cotton, and the cutest raspy voice. Lani was the most gracious, sassy, adaptable, and resilient cat I have ever known.

Lani loved taking naps with Mom in the afternoon. Our naps were our almost daily ritual. She loved it so much she learned the word “nap.” I would tell her, “Lani, let’s take a nap with Momma,” and she would immediately run upstairs to the guest bedroom, where the sun shined the most in our house. It was my favorite time of the day, too. Her second favorite was spending warm afternoons on the porch. At night, she would jump on our bed and wait until we fell asleep, and then go to her bed.

The mornings were spent with a lot of pats on the base of the tail—her favorite—and chin rubs, while she purred and talked back. And boy, could she talk!

Even though we had Lani for 8 years, our bond was like no other. Lani is my feline soulmate. We lost her on April 28, 2025—a month ago—and I miss her every day. Lani will forever be my bestie, companion, and nap partner. I love you, Lani!
