Erin Coonrod, Hospice Technician

From an early age, Erin has had interest in science and a deep love of animals. As a child, she was in awe of the role the veterinary technicians/nurses played in caring for her pets at her family veterinarian’s office; she wanted to grow to be just like them! She started her first veterinary job as a kennel attendant in 2004 and decided to pursue her childhood dream. She was proud to receive her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology from Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.

In 2007, while working as a veterinary assistant in a busy emergency practice, she discovered her calling for end-of-life care. It was during these devastating situations that she felt most connected to pet families. She knew she had to find ways to help families give their pets the most gentle end of life experience possible, whether that time be weeks, days, or even hours. In 2018, she became a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Technician through the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. She is honored to bring her experience and dedication to serving families with Caring Pathways.

In her free time, Erin enjoys sitting on the porch during thunderstorms, cuddling with her kitties, watching any documentary narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and being with friends and family. Her four cats, though often ornery and ridiculous, truly make her house into a home. They are Alonzo (aka Bean), Xena, Yoda, and Elektra (aka Ellie or Ells-Bells). And a piece of her heart will always be across the rainbow bridge with her beloved dog Grace, who was a feisty pain in the neck and a very special girl.
