Our Story of Providing Compassionate End-of-Life Pet Care Since 2022
The Caring Pathways Family of Practices is proudly family-owned and operated. Every member of our team has a personal drive to offer compassionate and supportive care to pet owners in their time of need. We are committed to offering each family a personal and caring experience during their pet’s final days.
The History of Caring Pathways
Caring Pathways was pioneered in 2010 by our founder, Dr. Larry Magnuson, who served the Colorado community for over 40 years by providing exceptional veterinary care. In 2009, Dr Magnuson realized the great need for compassionate, in-home end-of-life care for our beloved pets.
By July 2010, Dr. Magnuson established Caring Pathways in Denver, Colorado. With a compassionate heart and strong work ethic, Dr. Magnuson often worked 80-hour weeks to provide 24/7 support to pets and their families.
He then surrounded himself with like-minded team members who shared his passion and his vision, growing our availability and service area.
Because of Dr. Magnuson’s passionate leadership in building a supportive team, Caring Pathways in Colorado now consists of over 20 veterinarians and 20+ support staff members serving pet families with in-home, end-of-life pet care services from Castle Rock to Fort Collins along the Colorado Front Range.
In 2019, Jeff Lewis joined Caring Pathways as the CEO. Jeff has been involved with Caring Pathways since its beginning and has worked with Dr. Magnuson for over 25 years in previous organizations.
In 2020, Dr. Larry retired, but that did not stop him from continuing to provide valuable mentorship to the Caring Pathways family.
Caring Pathways now has practices in 3 states. in 2021, Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice in Virginia Beach, Virginia joined the Caring Pathways team, and Caring Pathways Charlotte launched in August of 2022.
The Caring Pathways team is honored to care for the pets and pet families in our community and it is part of the ongoing mission of Caring Pathways to provide compassionate care, support, and resources. Our team members work together to represent a unified goal of providing the kindest care possible to pets and their loving owners.
Dr. Magnuson gives all the glory to God for the continued success of Caring Pathways.

Webinar with Morris Animal Foundation: Navigating the End-of-Life Journey with our Beloved Pets
Words from one of our veterinarians, Dr. Mavi Graves:
“As an end-of-life veterinarian, providing as smooth and peaceful of a transition as possible for pets in the comfort of home is a vocation I honestly look forward to every day. I still cry a little bit almost every day supporting pets and pet families on what may be the saddest day of their life, but I am always honored to help families give their pets the gift of a good death at the end of a life well-lived. As one end-of-life vet put it, ‘Where there is grief, there is great love, and all day long I’m looking at that love.'”
